Na de eerste blogpost ‘van deze boeken wil ik heel graag een Nederlandse vertaling’ is het eindelijk tijd voor deel 2. Ik speurde mijn Goodreads-lijsten weer eens goed door en kwam wederom tot de conclusie: van deze boeken heb ik écht een Nederlandse vertaling nodig in mijn leven.

Wild Beauty – Anna-Marie McLemore

Wild Beauty klinkt onwijs mysterieus. Het gaat over een jongen die niets herinnert uit zijn verleden en over de Nomeolvides vrouwen die niet te erg verliefd mogen worden. Dan verdwijnen hun geliefden namelijk. Precies het soort fantasy dat ik leuk vind volgens mij – het doet me op een of andere manier een beetje aan Everless denken qua eerste indruk – en daarom wil ik zéker een Nederlandse vertaling van deze beauty.

Gemini – Sonya Mukherjee

Ik heb net Een van Sarah Crossan gelezen, een verhaal over een Siamese tweeling. Ook in dit boek, Gemini, speelt een Siamese tweeling de hoofdrol. Ik ben erg benieuwd, omdat ik het hele idee van Siamese tweelingen en identiteit fascinerend vind en ongelofelijk interessant. ‘Een’ heeft me wel behoorlijk geraakt en zelfs omver doen blazen, dus ik ben benieuwd of Gemina dat ook doet en of het net zo’n sterk verhaal is.

The Immortalists – Chloe Benjamin

Dit boek draait om de vraag ‘Als de datum van je dood bekend zou zijn, op wat voor manier zou dat je leven nu dan beïnvloeden?’ De vier personages in het boek weten namelijk de datum van hun dood, door een of andere mysterieuze vrouw in New York, en daarom ook wat er verder te wachten staat. Toen ik deze flaptekst las dacht ik direct: DIT WIL IK NU LEZEN. Het zet me meteen zo aan het denken, daar hou ik van bij YA-boeken. Maar eh: ik ben heel blij dat dit geen werkelijkheid is, die datum hoef ik echt niet te weten. Creepy!

Into White – Randi Pink

Boeken met een flinke dosis diversiteit – I want it. Zo vond ik The Hate U Give onder andere fantastisch omdat het racisme en discriminatie onder de aandacht brengt bij YA-lezers. Dit boek is wel hele andere koek, volgens mij veel luchtiger, maar ook weer zó boeiend. Het gaat in ieder geval over huidskleur, want in dit boek wordt een donkere tiener opeens wakker als een witte tiener. Heeeel raar, dus ik vraag me erg af hoe dit allemaal is uitgewerkt en of dit boek een goede boodschap bevat (iets met: accepteer jezelf zoals je bent.)

The Unlikelies – Carrie Firestone

En dan de laatste: The Unlikelies van Carrie Firestone. Ja, die cover met ijsjes spreekt me hier inderdaad vooral aan. Ik hou van boeken die zich afspelen in de zomer. Ik hou van boeken met eten op de cover. Heerlijk. Dit verhaal gaat over Sadie die een saaie zomer heeft en dan plots een goede daad verricht. Dan gaat ze totaal onverwachts viral en is de Internet Famous. Vet gek allemaal. Ze wordt ook voor een lunch uitgenodigd voor lokale helden en vanaf daar begint het verhaal volgens mij pas echt. Zomer, liefde en vriendschap dus – ik wil ‘m lezen. Fijne summerread!
